This piece was a continuous 56-minute performance constructed and conducted by Frank Gratkowski in collaboration with Micro-East Collective on 10 October 2001. It was recorded by Chris Stamey and Tim Harper at Go! Studios (Carrboro, NC) using a Decca tree M/S microphone array, along with spot mics and directs, then mixed and mastered by Chris Stamey at Modern Recording (Chapel Hill, NC). Some sections were composed by Frank Gratkowski, while others were rule sets proposed by members of Micro-East Collective or improvised by improvising "cells" within the ensemble. The ensemble was divided into three "cells," each of which were instructed to provide an individual performance within the overall flow of the piece. These "cells" were arranged to the left, center and right of the stage as Mr. Gratkowski faced them (and as the microphones have imaged the performance).
